Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a holistic approach to psychotherapy that recognizes the intimate connection between the mind and body. It focuses on the physical sensations, movements, and bodily experiences of an individual to address and heal emotional and psychological issues. Somatic therapy believes that unresolved emotional trauma and stress can manifest in physical symptoms and bodily tension. By exploring and addressing these bodily sensations and responses, somatic therapy aims to help patients better understand and manage their emotional and psychological well-being.

Somatic therapy works by facilitating a deep awareness of one's bodily sensations and movements, allowing patients to connect with their emotions and internal experiences on a fundamental level. Therapists trained in somatic techniques often use methods such as body scanning, breathwork, mindfulness, and gentle physical exercises to help individuals release stored tension, process past traumas, and gain insight into their emotional responses.

Through this process, patients can identify and release physical and emotional blocks, leading to improved emotional regulation, stress reduction, and a greater sense of overall well-being. Somatic therapy can be particularly effective for individuals who have experienced trauma, as it provides a safe and non-verbal means of addressing deeply rooted emotional wounds while promoting a sense of empowerment and control over one's own healing journey.
